The International Karate Daigaku hosted the annual IKD World Camp at Camp Wanakita in Haliburton, Ontario from June 18-21.

A group of Maritime IKD members attended the event which consisted of classes taught by IKD Shihan Kai members including our chief instructors, Shihan David and Janice Pyke.

During the event, Shihan David Pyke, Shihan Janice Pyke, Shihan Roy Stuart and Sensei Norm Robitza received IKD Executive Instructor, Examiner, Judge Licenses. They are among a small group of IKD Instructors to receive these new credentials.

Also during the packed weekend of training, there were some fun activities. The IKD World Camp Squid Games competitor consisted of a two day multiple event challenge. Beginning with Archery on day 1 of the games and concluding with Red Light-Green Light, Rock-Paper-Scissors and Tug of War. When the event was over and scores were tallied, the Maritime IKD stood tall. Andrew Sibbald won 1st place, Mark Douglas tied for 2nd Place and Toni Campbell tied for 3rd Place.

The Maritime IKD will be hosting a karate tournament in Moncton, NB on May 9th.

• Youth & Teen White-Orange Kata & Kumite
• Youth & Teen Green-Purple Kata & Kumite
• Youth & Teen Brown Kata & Kumite

• Adult White-Orange Kata & Kumite
• Adult Green-Purple Kata & Kumite
• Adult Brown Kata & Kumite

Volunteers needed to do scorekeeping and timekeeping.

INDIVIDUAL EVENTS: (Separate Youth VS Adult and some by gender and/or rank depending on age/level and registration numbers)

      Beginner: 9^th Kyu (White), 8^th Kyu (Yellow),7^th Kyu (Orange)

• Kata elimination: Heian Shodan flag system (2 perform simultaneously)
• Kata Finals: Tokui kata point system
• Kumite:
  • Sanbon – jodan, chudan, gedan/counter attack (right leg back)
  • OR (not both) Flag Kumite: Age 9 & under

Intermediate: 6th Kyu (Green), 5th Kyu (Blue), 4th Kyu (Purple)

• Kata elimination: Heian Yondan flag system
• Kata Finals: Tokui kata point system
• Kumite:
  • Ippon – jodan, chudan, mae-geri (no kekomi attack, no penalty for same counter attacks) (right leg back but if tie then left leg back)
  • OR (not both) Flag Kumite: Green Belts Age 9 & under ONLY

Advance: 3rd Kyu, 2nd Kyu, 1st Kyu (Brown)

• Kata elimination: Heian Nidan to Tekki Shodan flag system
• Kata Finals: Tokui kata point system
• Kumite eliminations: Jiyu ippon kumite (no contact allowed); no kekomi/mawashi-geri attack, no penalty for same counter attacks; Favorite sides for each attack. However, once announced attacker cannot change sides.
• Kumite Finals: Jiyu kumite (no contact allowed)

Youth & Teen Black Belt (Adults will be at a later date):

• Kata elimination: Heian Nidan to Tekki Shodan flag system
• Kata Finals: Tokui kata point system
• Kumite Eliminations & Finals: Jiyu kumite

TEAM EVENTS:

Team Kata

• Tentatively by age group Youth and Adult, Mixed Genders/ranks allowed
